Reminder of my Windows days

Yesterday my dad wanted to send an email containing an attached PDF document. The size of the email was about 2MB. For some reason it just would not work, Outlook 2002 (running on a Windows XP Home Edition installation with all the latest updates) displayed the error code 0x800CCC0E, which means it could not connect to the server. It only does this when a large email is being sent. I checked the settings on the mail server, I shut down firewall, I double checked all account settings and still it could not connect to send this email.

In the end Ubuntu came to the rescue and I sent the email from my own account through the Evolution mail client (through the same mail server). To the best of my knowledge I have not come across any application or tool in Ubuntu that suddenly stopped working for no reason, unless of course I was tinkering with my system.

I have decided to use this opportunity to reinstall his computer and give it a fresh breath of new life...until something else suddenly stops working...
