Yes, I was able to install rsync and I made a successful backup which was much faster than the built in feature. With rsync it took me about 8-9 hours.

But, exactly one day after I made the backup, the Network Space locked up on me and is not an elegant brick.

I have no idea what caused it to brick at this point.

But if you would like to give it a try, here is the tutorial I followed:
